My name is Sam Updike, and I am happy to introduce myself as the new DBE Supportive Services Specialist at Eastern Maine Development Corporation. I most recently worked as the Business Specialist on EMDC’s Domestic Trade Program, which has just wrapped up a very successful run. I am passionate about disadvantaged businesses and believe inclusive programs like these are critical for Maine’s economic development.

Growing up in Ellsworth, I enjoy nothing more than hiking, swimming, and appreciating the nature that is so plentiful here. I am a proud member of Maine’s LGBTQIA+ community, even playing in a band during Ellsworth’s pride festival a couple years ago. As a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, I am very pleased to be back in my home state helping our economy and businesses grow.

The Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Supportive Services Specialist at Eastern Maine Development Corporation (EMDC), assists women and minority owned businesses who want to sell their goods or services to the Maine DOT. Certified Maine DBEs benefit from our program through individualized assistance and supportive services, including: tuition reimbursement, website development, business technical assistance, access to templates, free resources, notices regarding upcoming workshops/events, and contracting assistance.
